Personality tests vs aptitude tests: what is the difference?
They are both called psychometric tests, and almost nothing else about them is the same.

Right answers, or no answers
An aptitude test has a correct response to every item and a clock running. A personality questionnaire has neither. That difference drives everything else: how you prepare, how you should answer, and what the score can be used for.
What each one predicts
General reasoning ability is one of the better-studied predictors of performance in complex roles. Personality adds separate information — conscientiousness in particular relates to job performance across many occupations, and the two together predict better than either alone.
Neither predicts an individual's outcome with anything like certainty. They shift probabilities across groups, which is a much weaker claim than most marketing implies.
How to approach each
For aptitude tests: practise the format, manage time per item, and accept that you will not finish everything on some batteries by design.
For personality questionnaires: answer quickly and honestly. Trying to present an idealised version of yourself tends to produce a flat, uninformative profile, and some instruments include consistency checks.
Which one do you actually need?
If you are preparing for a recruitment process, find out which specific instruments the employer uses and practise those. If you are trying to understand yourself, make a decision, or improve how you work with other people, a personality or emotional intelligence assessment is the more relevant tool.
Frequently asked questions
Can you fail a personality test?
Not in the sense of a pass mark. An employer may consider a profile a poor fit for a role, but there is no correct set of answers.
Which is used more in hiring?
Many employers use both: an aptitude battery to sit early in the process and a personality questionnaire alongside interviews.
